Virtual Car Showroom Backgrounds for a Dealer Photo App in Canada

A Canadian software company building a photo app for car dealerships needed studio backgrounds for the cars its users shoot on the lot. We designed four virtual showrooms and rendered each one from the five angles of a standard car listing, around a detailed 3D car model.

Client & Market Context

A Canadian Software Company Building a Photo App for Car Dealers

Our client is a software company in Canada that builds a photo app for car dealerships. Dealers photograph a car on the lot, the app removes the background and shows the car in a studio. The company needed virtual car showroom backgrounds for that studio.

One Studio Seen From Five Different Cameras

The main challenge of car photo backgrounds for an app is that the car is shot by many people on many lots, and the studio has to fit every one of those photos. The renders had to answer four questions.

The Finished Virtual Showroom Background Set

The set shows all four studios from the five listing angles: front, front three-quarter, side, rear three-quarter and rear, with the same 3D car in every view.

Cover of the guide on reusing one model for yacht, car and aircraft rendering

Free guide: one yacht ordered as three jobs cost $13,100 more than one build

You have just seen a vessel or vehicle rendered in detail. Behind images like these sits a model, and most launches need it three times: brochure stills, a configurator or variant set, and a film. Ordered separately, our priced composite came to $39,500; built once and reused, $26,400. The guide gives you the invoice, the six decisions to make before modelling and the short brief for yacht rendering.

What is a virtual car showroom background?
A virtual car showroom background is a rendered studio that replaces the real surroundings of a car photo. A dealer shoots the car on the lot, software removes the background, and the car appears in a clean showroom with matching floor, walls and light, so every listing looks consistent.
Why does each camera angle need its own studio render?
A front view, a side view and a rear three-quarter view see the room from different positions. If one flat backdrop is reused, the floor, the horizon and the reflections stop matching the car. Rendering the studio from each listing angle keeps perspective and shadows believable.
Which angles did these backgrounds cover?
Each of the four studios was rendered from five angles: front, front three-quarter, side, rear three-quarter and rear. These are the shots a car listing usually needs, so the app can place every photo of a vehicle into the same showroom.
Why put a 3D car model in a background render?
The car model sets the scale and the camera height of each view. With a detailed car in the scene we could check that the studio, the turntable and the lights frame a real vehicle well, and the client could judge each angle before using the empty studio.
Can a dealer have several showroom styles?
Yes. This project produced four different studios, from a light gallery to a walnut rotunda, so the app can offer dealers a choice of look. The same approach works for a single branded showroom that matches a dealership’s own interior or brand colors.
Who orders virtual showroom backgrounds?
Mostly software companies that build photo and listing tools for dealers, and dealer groups that want their own branded studio. In this case a software company in Canada ordered the studios for its app, which places dealers’ car photos into a virtual showroom.
