Cover of the guide on preparing CAD files for 3D product modelling

Free guide: your CAD file is not a render model, and fixing it cost $5,450

When the brands above commission 3D product modelling, they send one STEP export, a finish list and a sample. A raw engineering file with none of that took $5,450 of repair and rebuilding, against $2,200 for the same model from a clean handover. The guide prices what CAD leaves out and gives you the handover checklist to send from engineering.

Production Process

3D Furniture Modeling Process

Input Review

We review your CAD files, DWG or DXF drawings, sketches, photos and dimensions, and agree on what the model is for: renders, e-commerce, a configurator, AR or all of them. That decides the level of detail and the file formats.

Blockout & Proportions

We build the main volumes to real-world scale and check proportions, seat heights and clearances against your drawings before adding detail.

Detailed Furniture Modeling

Joinery, seams, piping, stitching, hardware, legs and mechanisms are modeled to the level the use requires, with clean topology that renders well.

Clay Review & Approval

You review clay previews from several angles. We correct form and details until the model matches the real piece.

Materials, UVs & Variants

We unwrap UVs, set up PBR materials and organize fabrics, finishes and options as variants, ready for renders or a configurator.

Export & Delivery

We deliver the master model and optimized versions in GLB, USDZ, FBX, OBJ or native 3ds Max, with named parts, the pivot at the base and real-world scale.

Why Choose Us

A Modeling Team That Also Renders Your Furniture

The same in-house team that builds your furniture models also renders, animates and prepares them for the web, so a model approved once works in every channel.

  • 01

One modeling team for the whole range

Your models are built inside our studio team, so quality, naming and file structure stay consistent across a whole range.

  • 02

    Parallel production teams

For multi-part projects, mixed scopes, or campaign work, we put the right specialists on it at the same time and cut the waiting between stages.

  • 03

    Dedicated project manager

You won’t re-explain your workflow each time. A dedicated manager stays with you across projects, remembers your preferences, and keeps communication, files, feedback, and deadlines organized.

  • 04

A fixed quote before work starts

Every project gets a fixed quote for its exact scope within one business day, so you know the cost before modeling begins.

  • 05

    Experience across project scales

From small one-off tasks to large-scale furniture programs, we assign the manager and team that fit your scope, complexity, and level of detail.

  • 06

Modeled for the images that sell

We plan every model for where it has to work: close-ups need stitching and seams, web viewers need light geometry, and catalogs need every variant.

What are 3D furniture modeling services?
3D furniture modeling services create accurate digital models of furniture from CAD files, drawings, sketches or photos. The model carries real dimensions, construction details and material slots, so it can be rendered, shown in a web viewer or AR, used in a configurator or shared with partners.
What is the difference between 3D furniture modeling and furniture rendering?
3D furniture modeling builds the piece itself: geometry, proportions and materials. Rendering turns that model into a finished image with lighting, a camera and a scene. Modeling comes first; if you need finished images as well, see our 3D furniture rendering services.
What files do you need to model furniture?
A dimensioned drawing is the best input: DWG, DXF, STEP, SketchUp, Rhino or a PDF with measurements. Photos from several angles plus overall dimensions also work, and fabric or finish samples, or supplier codes, let us match materials. Without dimensions we can only approximate proportions.
Which file formats do you deliver?
We deliver GLB and USDZ for web viewers and AR, FBX and OBJ for game engines and other studios, and native 3ds Max scenes. Models come at real-world scale, with named parts and the pivot at the base.
Can you prepare furniture models for a configurator or AR?
Yes. We build optimized models with variant-ready material slots and polygon budgets for web viewers and marketplace AR, and we can build the configurator itself: see our 3D product configurator service. File requirements by platform are covered in our guide to 3D model requirements for Amazon, Wayfair and Shopify.
Can you model custom furniture for interior design projects?
Yes. Interior designers and architects send sketches, supplier drawings or photos of bespoke pieces, and we model them precisely so client renders show what will actually be built. Models come in the format of your rendering software.
Can you model furniture that has not been manufactured yet?
Yes. We often model furniture before the first prototype exists, from drawings or sketches. We can also develop the design with you: form, proportions, materials and variants. We do not produce shop drawings or manufacturing documentation; your engineer or factory prepares those from the approved design.
Can you model whole furniture collections and product libraries?
Yes. We model full ranges as structured libraries with shared components, consistent materials and one naming system, so new fabrics, finishes and sizes are added without rebuilding the models.
Can I outsource 3D furniture modeling to your team?
Yes. Studios, configurator vendors, e-commerce teams and furniture brands use us as outsourced modeling capacity when they render in-house: we follow your naming, formats and polygon budgets. For products other than furniture, see our 3D product modeling services.
Do we get the rights to the 3D model?
Yes, if you need them. We can transfer commercial usage rights to the finished model together with the source files, as agreed in the contract, so you can use it for renders, animation, e-commerce or configurators without coming back to us.
How much does 3D furniture modeling cost?
Cost depends on the complexity of the piece, the level of detail, the number of variants and the formats you need. Every project gets a fixed quote for its exact scope within one business day.
Can you also render and animate the furniture models?
Yes. The same team renders packshots, lifestyle scenes and 360 views from your models and creates animations such as feature demos and launch films; see our 3D product animation service.
