Rolling Tarp System Renders for Poyntz Covered Systems

Poyntz Covered Systems, a Canadian maker of tarp systems for flatbed trailers, needed catalog images and had no product photos yet. We rendered its system on a truck and flatbed with the tarp open, loaded with sod, lumber, stone and nursery trees.

Client & Market Context

Poyntz Covered Systems: Tarp Systems for Flatbed Trailers

Poyntz Covered Systems is a Canadian manufacturer of soft-sided tarp systems that mount on standard flatbed trailers: a front bulkhead, a rolling frame and a tarp that slides open and closed over the load. Its customers haul sod and turf, lumber, building materials, agricultural and landscape products.

Showing a Tarp System That Is Hard to Photograph

A real photoshoot would need a finished system on a loaded truck, the right site for each type of cargo, a forklift or a crane, and good weather. For a new product that is slow and expensive, and every new configuration needs another shoot.

The Finished Tarp System Renders

The set ends with the rig at work and on the road: sod pallets behind the cab, a crane loading the deck, stone blocks on a building site, lumber next to a log yard and the trailer with the tarp closed.

Cover of the guide on planning a technical product animation shot by shot

Free guide: a 60-second explainer in 12 shots, and the 4 you can cut

You have just seen a machine, a device or a procedure shown rather than described. Doing the same in motion is a matter of planning shots, not polishing renders. Our composite 60-second explainer, priced shot by shot at $8,100, does all its explaining in five shots. The guide gives you the priced shot list, the input to send from engineering or medical teams and the short brief for product animation.

Results & Business Impact

  • 10views

of the truck, the flatbed and the tarp system for the catalog

  • 5loads

sod pallets, sod rolls, lumber, stone blocks and nursery trees

  • 2loaders

a forklift from the side and a truck-mounted crane from above

  • 1rig

the same truck, trailer and tarp system in every scene

Truck equipment is hard to photograph and easy to misunderstand. One 3D model of the rig shows the product open, closed and at work in every buyer's setting, before a single unit has to be shot.

What are rolling tarp system renders?
They are photoreal 3D images of a tarp system on a truck and flatbed trailer, made without a photoshoot. They show the system open, closed and loaded, from any angle and in any setting, so the images can be used in catalogs, websites, brochures, dealer presentations and trade shows.
Can you make catalog images before we have product photos?
Yes. That was the situation in this project: Poyntz Covered Systems had no stock images of its system yet. We built the rig in 3D from the brief and the client's references, and the renders replaced the photoshoot for the catalog.
Why show the tarp system open?
Because the open tarp is what the buyer pays for: access to the whole deck for loading. The client asked for a side profile with the tarp open so buyers can see inside the trailer bed, and we added scenes with a forklift and a crane at work.
Can one 3D model show different loads and settings?
Yes. We built the truck, the trailer and the system once and reused them in every scene: sod, lumber, stone blocks and nursery trees, on a farm, in a lumber yard and on a building site. New loads or angles cost far less than new shoots.
Do you render trucks, trailers and other truck equipment?
Yes. We render trucks, trailers, truck bodies and the equipment mounted on them, from CAD files, drawings, photos or references. The same model gives you studio shots, scenes at work, close-ups of details and animation for catalogs, websites, dealer materials, trade shows and advertising.
Do you work with manufacturers in Canada and the US?
Yes. This project was made for Poyntz Covered Systems in Canada, and we work with companies across North America fully remotely: briefs, files and feedback come online, and the final images are delivered in high resolution for print, web and digital use.
