Pika H3 Flex is an AI video-and-audio model that Pika released on October 29, 2026. It is post-trained from MiniMax H3, makes 5–15-second clips with synchronized sound in six steps, takes up to 12 reference files per generation, and ships both as open weights and as a hosted API that upscales drafts to 4K.
This is a first look from the production side. We make AI and CGI video ads for brands, so we read the release with one question in mind: does it change how an ad gets made and what it costs? We have not run client work on H3 Flex yet. The figures below come from Pika’s product page, price list, launch post and model card as published on October 29–30, 2026, and we will update this page after our own tests.

Two headline claims need context. Pika says a 15-second 768p clip can take “as little as 7 seconds”, but that is the model’s denoising time in a controlled test, not the time until you can download the file. And the #7 overall rank on DesignArena’s text-to-video board, with a score of 1293 and first place among open-weights models, is a launch-day snapshot that will move as new models arrive.
What Is New in Pika H3 Flex for Ad Production
Four changes matter for an ad, as opposed to a one-off social clip. Each one maps to a step where AI video usually slows a client job down.
- Draft cheap, finish once: the model works at 768p, and the upscale to 4K is applied to the take you pick. That matches how ads are approved: many rough options, one finished cut.
- A reference pack instead of a longer prompt: up to nine images, three videos and three audio clips per generation. For an ad, that means product angles, a moodboard, a motion reference and a voice sample in one request.
- Audio stems: dialogue, score, SFX, foley and ambience come out as separate WAV files, so the editor can swap the music or lower the ambience without regenerating the shot.
- Editing a take: reference-guided editing changes an outfit, a prop or the setting while keeping the performance and timing. In a client review, “change the jacket” becomes one edit instead of a new shot.
Pika H3 Flex Pricing for a 30-Second Ad
At Pika’s list prices, the model fees for a 30-second ad stay under $50 even with heavy drafting. The table assumes two 15-second shots, ten drafts per shot at 768p, and a 4K finish of the two approved takes, with five audio stems on the final 30 seconds.
| Step | What we count | Regular price | Launch price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drafts, text- or image-to-video | 20 drafts × 15 s = 300 s at $0.04/s | $12.00 | $6.00 |
| Drafts, reference-to-video | 300 s at $0.12/s, image references only | $36.00 | not listed |
| 4K finish | 2 takes × 15 s = 30 s at $0.16/s | $4.80 | $2.40 |
| Audio stems | 30 s at $0.001/s | $0.03 | not listed |
Method: per-second prices from Pika’s H3 Flex page on October 30, 2026. Reference-to-video is billed on input plus output video seconds, so every second of a video reference adds to the count, while image and audio references are free. Launch prices apply only during Pika’s launch window, when API Club members also get 15 free generations a day.
The fee is not where the cost of an AI ad sits. In our studio, most of the work goes into the concept, keeping the product exact in every shot, checking each line of dialogue against lip movement, and the edit. We usually show one or two concepts first and develop the one the client picks. A 30-second AI ad takes us about a week from a full brief; a CGI ad of the same length takes two to four weeks.
How to Use Pika H3 Flex References for a Product Ad
Twelve reference slots help only if each one has a job. This is the order we would fill them in for a product spot.
- Build the product as a 3D model first. Video models still redraw labels, logos and proportions. We model the product from the client’s artwork and specs and render clean stills from the angles each shot needs; AI handles the location, light and mood.
- Fill the image slots by role. Product angles from the 3D model, the actor or AI character, and the location or moodboard frames. Nine images is enough for all three.
- Use a video slot for the camera move. A rough phone clip or an animatic of the move gives the model the choreography. Each video reference runs 2–15 seconds, with 15 seconds in total per type.
- Use an audio slot for the voice. A short voice sample sets the tone of the dialogue. At least one image or video reference is still required.
- Draft at 768p, then finish. Note the seed of the approved take so you can reproduce it, then upscale only that take.
- Mix from stems and check lip-sync. Rebuild the sound in the edit from the stems and regenerate any line where the lips drift.

Pika H3 Flex Open Weights vs the Hosted API
The open release and the hosted service are not the same product. The open weights stop at 768p and do not include the upscaler, stem separation or Pika’s prompt rewriter.
| Open weights (self-hosted) | Pika API and app | |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 480p or 768p | Up to 4K through the upscaler |
| Audio | Stereo mixed into the clip | Mixed audio plus up to 5 WAV stems |
| Hardware | About 210 GB of base components; tested on one H100 80GB GPU | None on your side |
| License | MiniMax H3 Community License for adapters and base; Apache 2.0 for the example code | Pika’s terms of service |
| Best for | Look development in your own ComfyUI pipeline, files that cannot leave the studio | Client deliverables that need 4K and stems |
For client ads, the hosted route is simpler: 4K, stems and one vendor’s terms. Self-hosting fits a studio that wants to test looks in its own pipeline without uploading unreleased product files. Read the MiniMax H3 Community License and the NOTICE file in the repository before you use self-hosted output in paid work, and keep a copy of the version you used.
Pika H3 Flex Limits to Check Before a Client Job
- 15 seconds per clip: a 30-second spot is at least two generations plus an edit, so plan the cut before you plan the prompts.
- Native 768p: 4K is an upscale of a 768p generation, and the upscaler runs only on Pika’s service.
- Vendor numbers: “1.8× faster than H3 Max on average” and “up to 80% cheaper” are Pika’s own comparisons on matched prompts.
- Product accuracy: references guide the model, but small text and logos can still drift. When the pack must be exact, we keep it as a rendered 3D layer rather than a generated one.
When an AI Video Model Is Not Enough for an Ad
A model gives you shots. An ad also needs a concept, a script the brand can approve, an exact product, dialogue in the market’s language and an edit that lands the offer in the first seconds. If you want that handled end to end, our AI video ads team covers concept, generation, 3D product shots and the edit, and longer brand stories run through our AI video production work.
